Learning Sessions Outline

Establishing Treatment criteria

The first client assessment and pre-meeting information you need to gather, the intake questionnaire best practices, how to gain informed consent and setting clear agreements. Circumstances in which a Reiki treatment would not be appropriate, and case studies.

The Reiki Treatment

How you would tailor the treatment to your client. Potential outcomes and situations you may face. Differences in private and medical practice including aftercare advice.

Professional conduct

Often in an intimate patient/therapist relationship it becomes easy to blur lines. In this session we discuss personal boundaries but also your code of conduct as outlined by the UK Reiki Federation.

Premises & business practices

The different premises you may come across – setting up at home, in a clinic, and in the medical setting. Best practices for infection control, safe moving and handling techniques, fire safety and hazard control.

Communication and coaching skills

Active listening and non-attachment. How to track your client/patient changes and how to coach your client into better decisions. Learn key questioning and coaching skills to help your clients become more self-empowered.

Self-treatment and self-care

How we care of ourselves, learning to say “no” when we need to and developing a self-care plan as part of our business planning. Working for yourself can make time off a very low priority.

Personal Boundaries

An honest look at our need to help others, over-empathy, or a sense of superiority has no place in a helpful therapeutic relationship. When to notice your personal boundaries are slipping, and how to manage them.

Marketing, book-keeping, GDPR

The basics of setting up a business, accounting, the legality of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and marketing your business correctly.

Basic Anatomy and Physiology

General functions and locations of the major physical systems and organs. Appropriate Reiki positions and understanding of basic human anatomy.

Common pathology, symptoms and red flags

There are many red flags that indicate your client needs to see a Doctor rather than have a Reiki treatment.  Understand what these are, and also the basic symptoms of the most commonly presenting illnesses.
